Welcome to This Week in Solus, Installation #12. You know how I’ve said before “I think this is the biggest TWIS I’ve done”? Well, just consider that restated, again. Deal with it. Budgie Next There has been a lot of user experience work done on Budgie Next this week. This Week in Solus #11

Welcome to This Week in Solus, Installation #11. Budgie Next Considerable progress has been around Budgie Next. Lots of work this week was spent with Raven, which now sports the following: MPRIS support for media playback support Volume changing and input/output device switching and toggling. Budgie Next also now abides by your primary monitor, which should eliminate issues that multi-monitor users can have of Budgie rendering on your non-primary display when you have a secondary monitor plugged in.

This Week in Solus -- Install #10

Welcome to This Week in Solus, Installation #10. Budgie Next The rewrite of Budgie has seen some considerable progress and development that has been accelerated by the need to resolve issues that arose during the GNOME 3.18 Stack upgrade. As some of you may be aware, a keyboard issue has arisen since the Stack upgrade where pressing certain numbers on your keyboard will control font scaling instead. This issue specifically affects users of the Budgie desktop environment. For workaround information, click here .

Solus Fundraiser!

Hello all! We’re pleased to announce this experiment, a fund raiser leading up to the launch of Solus Operating System v1, October 1st. We’d like to see if we can raise $1,000 (US) in the next couple of weeks. The Whats There’s some bits and pieces we need to get together before the release comes out, including (but not limited to): Printer/Scanner combo (for enabling) AMD/ATi GPU (enabling) Bluetooth audio hardware (likely a headset, again for audio/bt stack enabling) Those bits aside, we’ve all been growing a bit nervous lately at the bandwidth situation. Our packages have to exist in a primary source (packages.solus-project.com), which is kept secure and maintained by one release manager, and then propagated to other mirrors. In the last few months we’re seeing a lot more traffic come by, and users are beginning to suffer, waiting on increasing update times. Not to mention we’re now going through several terabytes of bandwidth a month now as a project, and this is constantly growing.
