Security: linux, bash, multiple issues
Evolve OS users are advised to update their installations as soon as possible to address a number of recent security issues. It is advised you check often for updates from the Evolve OS repositories to protect you against any future issues. Note that in the instance of Evolve OS, /bin/sh is provided by dash, and not bash. To update your installation, simply issue the following command in a terminal, and then reboot:

Pidgin 2.10.9 Now Available
Pidgin, a multi-protocol chat program, may now be installed on Evolve OS. To install it, simply issue the following command in your terminal: sudo eopkg ur && sudo eopkg it pidgin

dhcpcd: CVE-2014-6060
All Evolve OS users are advised to update their systems as soon as possible. A vulnerability exists in dhcpcd which allows a denial of service. We have backported the relevant fix to our version of dhcpcd to ensure minimal disruption whilst maintaining security, A description from the National Vulnerability Database: The get_option function in dhcpcd 4.0.0 through 6.x before 6.4.3 allows remote DHCP servers to cause a denial of service by resetting the DHO_OPTIONSOVERLOADED option in the (1) bootfile or (2) servername section, which triggers the option to be processed again. To update your system, please issue the following command via the terminal:

Evolve OS Alpha 4 Released
Hello all. Contrary to the last post we have decided to release an updated Evolve OS ISO. This is in essence, a refreshed version of Evolve OS Alpha 3, with some minor differences. Note this ISO can be booted on EFI machines, however it cannot (and should not) be installed under EFI environments.

Linux 3.16.1 Now Available
The latest upstream stable kernel version is now available for Evolve OS. Users who have previously installed the NVIDIA binary drivers manually should note they now also need to add ’nomodeset’ to their boot line to stop nouveau loading, and they should rebuild the module to sync with the new kernel version.
