Re: Nvidia Driver Install for beginners

Because Solus is a rolling-release, all you need to remember is to keep Solus updated when you are prompted (get a message popup to open software center). Doing those updates will automatically update Solus from one version to the next.

Re: How to make Firefox 57 titlebar disappear?

Best bet on alternative browsers is Chromium. Vivaldi and others (including chrome) just based on Chromium anyway but do not always get the latest security or bug fixes. Ditto for the FF clones . . . less support and lengthier update spans.

Re: Unable to boot after hibernate

So, I'm not able to access my Solus laptop right now, but in a System76 Galago running Ubuntu 16.04.4 - - there is the option to tell the OS to do a controlled shut down when power level is critical. Does this option not exist in Solus? I find that letting a laptop run of of "juice" is similar to in...

Re: Don't understand how to install Brother print driver (DCP-7065)

Personally, that's exactly what I would do unless you really want to get into compiling. LOTS of reading and learning IT level skills (de-bugging yada yada). And then the finished driver may not give optimal performance. If you were to change kernels from LTS to Current (depending on the source code...

Re: Don't understand how to install Brother printer driver (DCP-7065)

Have you tried to install the printer using the CUPS Print Service? Take a quick look at adding the printer via the CUPS interface by adding this to your URL field in a browser (Firefox or Chromium/Chrome) "localhost:631" If the printer can be connected first (via usb), that would improve likelihood...

Re: Wifi adapter not turning on

Frankly, if it's my system I'm not wasting my time/energy on hardware issues like this. Too much work to do, and a few years back, when I was looking at a similar situation, I spent $10 usd on a Panda USB Wireless nano size dongle (like the RF for a wireless mouse). The Ralink based Ultra 150 b/g/n ...

Re: Need help for a particular installation in Dual Boot

Back to original Poster . . . if you cannot get the USB to be recognized as a bootable device, perhaps you still have "secure boot" enabled. Try turning it off. Also - - be sure to check that Windows Fast Start is disabled also, as Windows hibernation can confuse Linux installers.
