Edit: Now in 3rd Part!

Please note if you have installed from this thread and want to update/re-install please remove Plex from your system first, then install from 3rd Party.

I have installed plex using following instructions. But I cannot open http://localhost:32400/web. Are there any additional steps that needs to be done to enable the service?

Right so I finally figured out how to get the desktop launcher working.

Here is the code if anyone is interested

Code: Select all

sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/plex.desktop
Paste the following inside the blank document that will open:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Plex Media Server
Comment=Run Plex Media Server Web Interface
Exec=firefox http://localhost:32400/web/index.html
Icon=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Graphics/dlna-icon-260.png
Categories=AudioVideo
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
To get it to show in the menu under Sound & Video should be automatic, especially after a reboot, but it you want it quicker type the following

Code: Select all

pkill panel

Few tips for your desktop file: xdg-open will use the default browser instead of forcing firefox. As for the icon not appearing try sudo update-desktop-database

Hi Justin,

You absolutely rock!!! Thanks so much. I made use of the installer and it works very well. I have some scripts I use to backup and restore which needed modifying for the new install location, and it all works very very well.

It is, however, a little dated, could you please advise how I can go about updating the Plex version?

Cheers

The 3rd Party link should be up to date. I will check though and make sure.

Hi could you please update Plex Media server again?

BTW: Isn't there any way to update your repositories automatically? GitLab help through their build system.
