Google Chrome 65 - missing fonts

Thu Mar 08, 2018 11:33 am

After getting the latest update to Google Chrome, I had to deal with display issues in the browser. It seems that there are some fonts missing in Solus. My quick solution: I installed Microsoft's True Type Fonts (msttcorefonts).

Maybe someone with enough knowledge could take a look into that? Thanks.

Microsoft fonts can be installed via 3rd-party script, but as far as I'm aware they are unable to be shipped in a usable format.

Yeah, I know. The MS fonts aren't my issue; they were merely a temporary solution until the cause could be discovered and fixed. My issue is that Chrome 65 looks terrible. Tested it. The problem is only with Solus. Antergos, Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora don't have that issue.

For now, I've switched to Debian Stretch. The advantage of having endless hard drives in my machine, I suppose - makes switching between distros even easier. :D

Will check back if someone can help eventually.

Well, I guess I am the only one having this issue then. Bummer! :(

Tried once more a clean installation but the moment Chrome updates to version 65, I am ending up with ugly fonts in Chrome. I can confirm that this only happens in Solus, not in other distros.

I've got the same issue. Version 64 was fine.
Neither installing mscorefonts nor changing font settings in Chrome to any available font in system gives the same look i had before in ver64. :(
Any help would be appreciated.

Chrome folks are allowed to change the default fonts, however, I have no idea what they used to be.

Note that good information should make it's way to https://dev.solus-project.com/T6015 so it can be worked around in the package
