Installing GDAL also installs full PostgreSQL

Thu Mar 08, 2018 5:32 pm

Hi,

I need the GDAL Library, when I installed it it also installed a full postgresql. Is that truly needed? I tried other distros and they only install postgreslibs but not a full postgres.

Or am I completely wrong here?

TIA
Patrick

Some like to split packages into many many packages (1 package for every lib). While we typically have main -devel and -dbginfo packages, some places it does make sense for additional splitting. For example, mariadb is split up as it's getting towards 200MB overall.

Postgresql originally wasn't used by many packages, so wasn't split. Looking at it, it's only 17MB (though the libraries are quite small). Would suggest making a task if you would like it to be investigated https://dev.solus-project.com/
