Rationale for Raven Sidebar?

What improved functionality did the designers have in mind by implementing the Raven sidebar? Personally, I am not keen on identical launchers/features that appear in multiple places in different contexts.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems everything in Raven can be found in the menu accessed via the top left button. I just want to know before I uninstall Raven since this action produces a pop-up that says it cannot be undone.

Notification managing, calendar viewing without an applet, etc. Just keep it :).

I like the raven alot. But I have one small niggle.

I would like to see the clock/calender as the raven icon or an option to integrate it to make it one button. That would make more sense to me. I'm used to gnome and clicking on the time to get a month calendar view.

I too like the Raven side bar. I however wish it was possible to have the week numbers in the calender...
