Snaps

Tue Sep 05, 2017 5:02 am

I know that there's plans for further integration into the software center, but in the interim the frame work is already there. Earlier I added Plex media server thru a snap package. I followed along from http://tipsonubuntu.com/2017/07/22/inst ... 04-higher/.

sudo snap install menta-plexmediaserver --classic
--classic gives plex access to files outside of its sandbox. I have yet to test connect it over to my roku and test if everything is working but it worked thru my browser and I expect it works just as intended.

I can not attest to what the future will bring with these snaps. Will we use an independent app store or the one thats already there? But there's one there. There's also as I understand a backlog for desired third party apps. I wonder if charging in head first would be problematic? People can go in and find these desired apps as snaps. Test them out. If they work right paste the info here. At some point they will complete the integration. Perhaps some of what is posted here can help, for example if they opt for a website tutorial such as https://solus-project.com/articles/soft ... -party/en/ for those who may prefer installing these snaps in the terminal. If nothing else in the interim it may just get people access to specific apps right away and in a central location...

Integration is that you search for it in the software center, and if it's available as a snap, it will show as an option to install. There will be no need to go to a webpage, or a restriction on what apps can be accessed. So the page will be removed in future

Hi!

I would like to have a icon or something expressing if the software being installed is a Snap or not...
Is all software in the software center 'snapped'?

Thanks
First time using linux as a daily OS.
Solus project seemed like the right choice.
