A Breach Of Agreement! (WPS office)

Mon Jan 21, 2019 8:41 am

I have read the EULA for WPS office. (https://www.wps.com/eula) I found out that it is a breach of the license agreement for solus users to install WPS office (via 3rd party repo) on solus. The EULA clearly states that (under Part 1 of sub section 3 of section 1) only users who use a chinese distro are allowed to use it. Infact, users who use WPS office (for linux) must also use a processor from a chinese brand.

This funny condition is only there for linux users, however. Windows users are not restricted in that way. :| I recommend all WPS office users (who are not compliant with these terms ) to stop using it as it is most probably not legal for us to use it under such conditions.

Libreoffice is great for many use cases. If, however, you are in need of better compatibility with microsoft office formats, please consider using onlyoffice. (https://www.onlyoffice.com/) It is also available as a snap package. :D

Perhaps it's more of an issue for other filetypes than doc and docx, but as a writer, I have no issues working with others in my critique group with LibeOffice.

Out of curiosity, what sort of lack of compatibility have you had/seen with LibreOffice?
