If i opt for that, is the double of available RAMs still recommended or can it be smaller?
The double of RAM is from the old times when computers hadn't much memory.
Except for specific usage, nowadays the only rule that matters is if you want to use "suspend to disk" (hibernate), the size of the swap partition
should be larger than the amount of RAM of the computer.
FWIW, my computer has 16Gb RAM and a 2Gb swapfile (that is almost never used - this also because swappiness is set to 1). I know some people set swappiness to 0 and don't have a swap at all but I don't advise doing this because if the computer should run out of memory, it would crash.
