Not booting from USB

Sun Mar 04, 2018 6:25 pm

Hello,

i bought a used HP Pavilion 13-271bng and wanted to install Solus OS on it.

I downloaded Solus OS and made a bootable USB Stick.

First i disabled secure boot in the bios settings. Also i enabled legacy boot in the bios settings. But after booting from the USB stick the boot freezes.
I tried different methods to make a bootable USB Stick. No success with any methods. So i tried different Linux Distributions.
When i tried GParted Live one error message appears. Telling

tsc deadline disabled due to errata please update microcode to version 0x25 (or later)

So after a web search i found out that have something to do with the intel microcode.

There are bugs for Fedora, Redhat, Ubuntu.

These are the Distributions that i tried to boot from the bootable USB Stick.

Solus OS - Boot freezes without an error message
Gparted - boot freezes with error message "tsc deadline disabled due to errata please update microcode to version 0x25 (or later)"
Ubuntu - the same result like GParted
ArchLinux - boot freezes without error message

Anyone having a clue how to solve this?

Thanks in advance!

What do you means by "boot freeze" ? do you have a black screen with a blinking cursor on the upper left corner ? (I'm talking about Solus because I don't know symptoms on other distros) ?

Also, if you say it's a problem with the microcode, did you try to look for an update for your BIOS ?

Hello,

yes a black screen with a blinking cursor on the upper left corner.

I did a BIOS Update. The latest BIOS Update is from January this year.

In UEFI Mode no black screen with a blinking cursor on the upper left corner.

In Legacy Mode a black screen with a blinking cursor on the upper left corner.

What i also did was to put the HDD from my older laptop running Solus in a external HDD case and booted from that.

Solus doesn't boot up.

I tried to boot from the Solus Live USB again.

While booting i hit the "e" key and changed the boot options. I disabled quiet and splash. From the boot i did a picture.
