Successful install of Solus Budgie on Macbook Pro 2009

  1. Install Solus using the Solus tutorial. Follow the Mac and Etcher guide.
  2. Once Solus is installed and you are logged in, connect LAN cable to router (since wifi drivers not active)
  3. Uninstall nvidia-drivers from Terminal (this will avoid the regularly occuring "black screen" issue

    sudo eopkg remove nvidia-glx-driver nvidia-glx-driver-modaliases nvidia-304-glx-driver nvidia-340-glx-driver nvidia-340-glx-driver-modaliases nvidia-304-glx-driver-modaliases
  4. Install wifi drivers from Terminal


    Code: Select all

    sudo eopkg it broadcom-sta-current
  5. RESTART to use wireless or continue to next step.
  6. Upgrade drivers from Terminal


    Code: Select all

    sudo eopkg up
    note: upgrade may repeatedly fail with "Could not fetch destination file ..." error. Re-enter above terminal command each time. Upgrade will continue from where it failed.

    For faster upgrade sudo eopkg remove thunderbird firefox libreoffice
  7. RESTART
  8. Install fan/heat control from Terminal

    sudo eopkg it tlp


    Code: Select all

    sudo systemctl enable tlp.service && systemctl start tlp.service
  9. Install Dropbox from Terminal

    Code: Select all

    sudo eopkg it nautilus-dropbox
 nautilus-dropbox
    note: download and install Dropbox when prompted


    Restart dropbox with the correct tray icon

    dropbox stop && dbus-launch dropbox start -i

    Open Dropbox settings and Select "open on startup"
  10. Install Chrome - Open Software Manager > Third Party > Google Chrome
  11. Setup Dock in Budgie Desktop Settings
  12. Install Budgie Screenshot Applet from Terminal


    Code: Select all

    sudo eopkg it budgie-screenshot-applet

    Add applet to panel
  13. Install Albert - Open Software Manager > Search
 Remember to enable the needed plugins
  14. File Manager sort order to set file manager global sort order open dconf in Budgie Menu
 org > gnome > nautilus > preferences > default-sort-order
  15. Install Typora (for Markdown users) - Download from https://bintray.com/probono/AppImages/Typora
 Right click downloaded file and click "Properties"
 Click "Permissions" and select "Allow executing file as program"
 Then run file.
