No Wifi Adapter Found

Tue Dec 18, 2018 3:51 pm

I downloaded Solus 3.9999 Budgie onto my hp laptop, and after installing, it told me that there were no wifi adapters found. I'm using a Realtek RTL8821CE wireless adapter and running kernel 4.18.5. Please help

4.19.9 is the current kernel, please update, reboot and let us know the results.

I've got the same problem: no wifi with RTL8821CE, however I haven't got an ethernet cable. So, I'm stuck with sneakernet.

How would I go about that?

Or should I wait for an update of the solus release image?

Or you may try tethering with a smartphone (use your mobile phone as modem). Of course don't try to configure it as a wifi hotspot. Rather try USB or Bluetooth.

Does the latest stable kernel include support for that wifi chip? (before I wipe my system, I'd like to know what I'm getting into :) )

It was added with the 4.19.1 update. See here. (Assuming RTL8821AE and RTL8821CE use the same driver; if not you'll have to open a task on the bu tracker to ask to enable this kernel module)

Well, it turned out the driver I needed wasn't available (even in 4.9.12). However, my phone's tethering seems to happily do its job via wifi (as opposed to via 5g) - I noticed so by observing that about a gigabyte of data has been used by tethering, while only about 136MB via 5g.

Lucky me. I get to use my phone for a modem until this driver actually becomes available.

Oh... and buying a new wifi card isn't an option as it's a laptop I am using.
