CUDA or OpenCL support

Mon Aug 20, 2018 4:29 pm

Hello,
I find Solus OS with Budgie desktop fresh miracle in Linux/GNU distro world, with one huge flaw - lack of support for OpenCL and/or CUDA.
I am a Blender user, and I need to use GPU for rendering in this app. What I was surprised with that in Solus OS it is impossible to install drivers that support CUDA and/or OpenCL.
I am currently switching my GPU, probably to AMD RX580 just for that (I am currently using Nvidia/CUDA), can someone please fix that flaw?
I know about license distributing prohibition problem, however in other distros it is possible to install AMDGPU PRO or NVIDIA driver & CUDA.
Is there a chance for support for it in next releases/next upgrades?

P.

I do have a question:
As AMD is moving their GPU drivers to OpenSource will I be able to use blender GPU rendering via OpenCL on SOLUS when I will buy AMD Radeon RX580?
Is it possible?

Hi,
u can use opencl with blender and your nvidia gpus.
opencl is in the software center. after installing u open the terminal and usw "CYCLES_OPENCL_SPLIT_KERNEL_TEST=1 blender" without ".
i have test it yesterday with the bmw benchmark
https://code.blender.org/2016/02/new-cycles-benchmark/
without opencl 7.30min
with opencl 2.30min
