I owe you a large beer!

I never realised that configure and make were superfluous in my case.

Code: Select all

sudo hp-setup
and choosing USB solved my problem.

Very many thanks.

Yay! I'm really happy to hear that it worked out! :D Happy printing!!

For the benefit of anybody else setting up an HP printer in Solus, this is what I did:

I opened the Solus Software Center, searched for hplip and then installed it.

Next, I used this HP link: ... l/download

I downloaded the hplip tarball (hplip-3.12.6) to my Desktop (your software may be downloaded to your Downloads folder instead) and opened Terminal.

Code: Select all

cd Desktop

tar xvfz hplip-3.12.6.tar.gz

cd hplip-3.12.6
I then switched on my printer and plugged its USB cable into my laptop.

I then ran:

Code: Select all

sudo hp-setup
I selected USB, my HP 8620 was detected and I pressed “Add printer”.

Job done.

I installed hplip from the SC and with sudo hp-setup I could install the printer.
