Thanks to Kyrios's help, the smartcard reader is now up and running when I boot my laptop. Thanks!

Regarding the FIBOCOM L831-EAU WWAN card for wireless 4G internet access, I haven't been able yet to get that card up and running... I googled for Linux drivers for this card and found that it probably needs the mbim drivers. The software center shows that libmbim is already installed. Do I need to install additional drivers?

In another google search result (see: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100938 ) they speak of a bug in an update of the Linux kernel. However, that is about the 4.12 kernel and my Solus install is running the 4.14 kernel. When I boot the laptop in Manjaro i3 though, which runs an older kernel, the FIBOCOM card is detected. Could this be a kernel issue?
Sorry for bumping my question back up again... The use of this WWAN card is important to me. Can anybody point me to a possible solution or another resource where I could search for a solution? Thanks.
I have the same problem with my Thinkpad T440 :-/

While exploring the Solus universe I found this on the "dev track" page:

T1056 Enable support for mobile LTE routers ( https://dev.solus-project.com/T1056 )

It looks like the Solus team is working on this! Let's hope this problem is resolved when Solus 4 launches.

The description of this task however is not very clear, would this include support for internal cards like my FIBOCOM as well?

If you can provide the information as to what kernel modules your WWAN card is using (when it is detected elsewhere), then it can be enabled in the next kernel build).

There are two separate issues:
NM not having proper support (so it doesn't understand mobile networks)
Whether the kernel can detect your WWAN card (if not, the module needs to be enabled in the kernel)

Code: Select all

lsmod
will show what kernel modules are loaded.

Sunnyflunk, thanks for looking into this!

I booted my Thinkpad in Manjaro where the WWAN card is working and ran lsmod in the terminal. Below you find the results. I included all of them as I am not really able to figure out which ones are used by the FIBOCOM card...

Sorry for bumping my own question again...

My up-to-date Solus 3 Budgie still doesn´t detect the mobile broadband card . Is this a feature that will be supported in Solus 4? Or can I do something to enable it in Solus 3?

Hello

I have just discovered that Solus now recognizes the built in WWAN card in my laptop (Thinkpad T470)! However, the network settings panel has to be open in order for the WWAN card to be detected. I suppose that I have to autostart this functionality if I want it available all the time (systemd?) How do I do this?

There is also a second problem. Even when the status of the mobile broadband connection in the network settings panel is ´connected´, applications like Firefox or the Software Center still can´t access the internet. Any ideas on how to resolve this are welcome.

Thanks.
