Failing install TPLink AC600 WiFi driver

Thu Mar 01, 2018 11:07 pm

Hi, i have the TPLink AC600 usb wifi stick but i don't find to make it work.
My system (Solus Gnome ed.) sees the device correctly with Mediatek mt7610u chip but it does not have the correct drivers.
I found this guide where he explains how to download and install a working version.
Here the link: https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... er-install

Code: Select all

Steps:

Unplug Wifi dongle from USB

update your sources and upgrade if any sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade

install gnu compiler collection sudo apt-get install build-essential

lets install git

sudo apt-get install git
get sources

git clone https://sanrath@bitbucket.org/sanrath/mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit.git
if you have cloned already

cd mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit git pull
build driver

cd mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit
make clean
make
sudo make install
There should not be any errors in last commands

After the last command connect your USB Wifi adapter to any USB port. Now it must have listed all visible wifi signals(SSIDs). Connect to internet

open a browser and test internet !!
...but I can not install them, it gives me an error during the "make" with the compiler: bin2h.c: 28: 10: fatal error: stdio.h: File or directory does not exist
#include <stdio.h>

any ideas?

I guess the solus equivanlent to "sudo apt-get install build-essential" is "sudo eopkg it -c system.devel"

Installed e tried again, it give me this error:

Code: Select all

ka1s3r@solus-pc ~/mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit $ sudo make install
make -C /home/ka1s3r/mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit/os/linux -f Makefile.6 install
make[1]: ingresso nella directory "/home/ka1s3r/mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit/os/linux"
rm -rf /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA
mkdir /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA
cp /home/ka1s3r/mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit/conf/RT2870STA.dat /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/.
install -d /lib/modules/4.15.6-58.current/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
install -m 644 -c mt7610u_sta.ko /lib/modules/4.15.6-58.current/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
install: impossibile eseguire stat di 'mt7610u_sta.ko': File o directory non esistente
make[1]: *** [Makefile.6:459: install] Error 1
make[1]: uscita dalla directory "/home/ka1s3r/mediatek_mt7610u_sta_driver_linux-64bit/os/linux"
make: *** [Makefile:489: install] Error 2
p.s. impossibile eseguire = impossible to execute
File o directory non esistente = File or directory does not exist
uscita dalla directory = exit from the directory

it seems something trivial... but i don't know what :(

p.s.2 thanks for the answer

Well all I can tell is that it doesn't find the file mt7610u_sta.ko which is supposed to be built during the make step
