How to build net-tools and install sonicwall netextender

Sat Jul 07, 2018 11:31 pm

I have recently switched to solus on my work laptop but couldnt get sonicwall netextender client working in solus due to missing net-tools. This is what I did to get it working -

First install required packages in solus -

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg it -c system.devel

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg it ppp openjdk-8
Download sonicwall netextender tgz package. I am using the latest version currently availiable

Download net-tools source package here -

http://anduin.linuxfromscratch.org/BLFS ... 030.tar.gz

Required patch -

http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/patches ... ps-1.patch

untar package and cd into source directory

Code: Select all

patch -Np1 -i ../net-tools-CVS_20101030-remove_dups-1.patch &&
sed -i '/#include <netinet\/ip.h>/d'  iptunnel.c &&
yes "" | make config &&
Once build is complete -

Code: Select all

sudo make install
untar netextender archive and cd to the directory

create symbolic link for ifconfig so netextender is able to find it

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /usr/bin/ifconfig /sbin/ifconfig
install sonicwall netextender by running -

Code: Select all

sudo ./install
make sure you press y at the prompt to run ppp as root if you want to be able to use netextender on your user account

Sonicwall netextender is now installed and you can find it in the application menu

One last important step in order for netextender to work -

Go to the following url and copy this

https://gist.githubusercontent.com/vier ... tions.pptp

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/ppp/options
paste into the file and save

You should now be able to use netextender on solus!
